Such a Fun Age

by Kiley Reid

Sarah's take

I wholeheartedly recommend "Such a Fun Age" for its sharp exploration of race, privilege, and the complexities of friendship. Kiley Reid masterfully crafts characters whose intentions are tangled, offering readers a poignant reflection on identity and the often uncomfortable truths of social justice—perfect for those who appreciate narratives that challenge our perceptions and spark meaningful conversations.

About the book

When young Black babysitter Emira is accused of kidnapping her white charge at an upscale grocery store, the incident sets off a chain reaction that exposes the complex racial and class dynamics between Emira and her well-meaning employer, Alix. As both women navigate their relationship's shifting power dynamics, Reid crafts a sharp, uncomfortable examination of modern racism, privilege, and the complicated ways good intentions can mask deeper prejudices.
