Water for Elephants

Sarah's take

I wholeheartedly recommend *Water for Elephants* for its exquisite blend of love, loss, and the haunting world of the circus during the Great Depression. Jacob's journey not only explores the complexities of human relationships but also delves into the deep bond between humans and animals, making this a poignant read for anyone who cherishes stories of resilience and emotional depth, especially those who appreciate strong female characters like Marlena.

About the book

During the Depression, veterinary student Jacob abandons his shattered life to join a traveling circus, where he discovers a world of wonder, brutality, and unexpected love with Marlena, the star performer married to her violently unpredictable husband. As Jacob navigates the dangerous politics of circus life, he must choose between safety and protecting those he's come to cherish—including Rosie, the elephant who holds the key to their salvation.
